Manic Miggsday #11--Love, Mercury Style!!
So Mr. Miggs has saved Betty Barton's circus from the mafia. And he's decided not to kill everyone on Earth to make room for Mercury's colonists. All's well that ends well, right? Not so much...
Hmm...it's not like this plot development wasn't telegraphed several posts ago. Still, let's play along, shall we?
Ahem...Oh, dear, whatever will happen now?!?

And back on the now-safe Earth?

Manic Miggsday #10--Love Conquers All!!
Well, the deadline has finally come. Mr. Miggs must press the button in his magic science vest that will wipe out all the humans on Earth:
Luckily for us...

Awwww....
But wait. What about the wrath of Mercury's Queen? And will Half-Nelson McGurk ever find love?
Tune in for the riveting conclusion...

Manic Miggsday #9--Miggsy Don't Need No Stinkin' Vest!!
So Mr. Miggs goes for the final confrontation with the gangster who've been threatening Clint Betty Barton's circus:

Dudes, he's from MERCURY!!
I tried to warn them...now, what would be a good ironic punishment for these guys?

Oh, dear...
Don't worry...we're not done yet!

Manic Miggsday #8--Don't Mess With The Vest!
Mr. Miggs may resemble a mere man from Mercury, but dudes, you don't want to mess with him.
For example, when some goons try to roust him...

But, of course, mobsters never give up. And, just as importantly, circuses never seem to have adequate locks on their cages. So...

A mere gorilla taking out Miggs? I think not!

Ah, but a gorilla is not much of a threat compared to...

OK, that's the most unnecessarily but conveniently specific button ever!!
We're still not done yet!

So, Mr. Miggs is pretty tough with his magic science vest. But how is he without it? Stay tuned...

Manic Miggsday #7--Love For Miggsy!!
So, when you come from Mercury, a planet dominated by strong, domineering women whom you really hate, and you come to Earth, and you have a choice betwixt a strong domineering woman and a more...traditional 1950s version of a woman...well, whom do you think Miggsy is going to choose?

Love for Mr. Miggs!!
But the crooks are still trying to ruin the circus!! And he's still supposed to wipe out all us humans? How can this end well??
Stay tuned...

Manic Miggsday #6--It All Starts To Come Together
And let the pieces begin to link up...
Mr. Miggs decides that the best place to set up camp to wipe out all life on Earth is at a circus outside a small town in Indiana. And of course, he shows up just as Betty Barton (Clint's long-lost sister??) is bemoaning that her outfit is being destroyed by the Ozzie Barbuti (?) gang, to whom she refused to fork over dough:
Fortunately, Miggs has his magic science vest!!

And then, he rousts the rousters of the roustabouts (yes, I really just wrote that):
Oh, well, that's all we...what? We've barely just begun?? Sigh...Stay tuned, I guess...

Manic Miggsday #5--All Circuses Are Circuses Of Crime!!
For all the attention focused on organized crime in the 1950s, it couldn't have been all that bad (certainly not as bad as comic books!!) You see, at a circus "encamped outside a small Indiana town":

Yes, apparently every circus ever was a target for mobsters. Because protection money from circuses is obviously much more profitable than gambling, prostitution, smuggling, drugs, etc. Circuses--that's where the money is!!
Well, sadly, the "Barton Giant Traveling Carnival" (wait...Barton?!? You don't think...?) didn't have the Flying Graysons or similarly well-connected friends to help out, and they didn't have the good sense to visit Gotham City, so...

I'm just sayin', The Godfather or Scarface would have been much better movies had they focused on the circus-related aspects of the mob.
But what does this have to do with Mr. Miggs? And "Half-Nelson McGurk, the world's greatest woman wrestler"?? How does she fit in??
Hang on, guys...

Manic Miggsday #4--Snappy Dresser
Well, meek Mr. Miggs is being sent to Earth to wipe out all the humans so that the female-dominated Mercury folks can colonize there.
But how is he expected to accomplish such a feat?
Well, clothes really do make the man:

And of course, by Q's Law Of The Conservation Of Gadgets, all of those buttons (and more) will be used.
For example, when Miggs first arrives on Earth, he's befuddled by Earthly traffic. So...

How will Mr. Miggs use the other buttons? Stay tuned...

Manic Miggsday #3--Wrong Channel, Buddy!!
Science Fiction Cliche #21A is when the visitor from a strange world sees something odd here on Earth and assumes that it represents our entire culture, and bases their whole scheme upon that misconception. (A minor variation is when the alien lands on Earth and our protagonist introduces himself as "Smith...John Smith," and the alien proceeds to call him Smith Johnsmith for the entire episode/movie. Because that joke never, ever stops being funny...)
How does this relate to our Mr. Miggs? Well, despite being trusted with finding a new planet for Mercury to settle, he really, really is disenchanted with the domineering women-folk there:
So, of course, when Miggsy turns his televeiwer thingy on to Earth, he sees:

Ah, those "Militant Women Leaders Of America." Whatever happened to those guys?
But you see, Mr. Miggs doesn't understand that this is just some cartoonist's odd view of the nascent women's lib movement. No, he thinks this is what the whole Earth was like in 1956...
Way to go, Militant Women Leaders Of America--you've doomed us all!!
Or have they...? To be continued...
