Super-Villain Smackdown--Doom Vs. MODOK!!

OK, earlier today I gave you a story that was all text.

I'll make that up to you with some gorgeous drawing--and the wonderful sight of two master villains doin' the dozens.

So, without further ado (and skipping the boring parts with Namor, because who cares about him even though this is his own book), here's Gene Colan drawing Victor Von Doom Vs. MODOK!

Well, I suppose it makes up for all the times you left opponents fighting Doombots while you slipped away, Victor...

Sympathy For The Abomination!

You ever wonder what happens when you're one of Earth's most powerful beings, and you keep getting beat down and beat down and beat down and beat down and...

Well, Thunderbolt Ross and M.O.D.O.K. want to use the Abomination to beat the crap out of the now-has-Banner's-mind Hulk. Because that's what bad guys do.

One problem--good old Emil Blonsky isn't having any of it...

Aw, geez, poor guy...

Well, our pal M.O.D.O.K. was designed only for killing, and not for operant conditioning (which is why he's not called M.O.D.O.O.C., I guess...), because the Abomination is still a cowardly cutlet as he goes on his mission:

SPOILER ALERT: Hulk still kicks Blonsky's ass. Blonsky kidnaps Banner's girlfriend and takes her to M.O.D.O.K., who promptly turns her into...

MS. M.O.D.O.K.!!!

At least Bruce got to wear this bitchin' contraption for awhile:

Bold Fashion Choices--A.I.M. For More Colors, Please!

We all know what A.I.M. looks like, right?

The yellow beehive guys. Always yellow.

But the science henchmen of Advanced Idea Mechanics didn't always used to be so mono-chromatic.

There was white and blue...

...or white and fuchsia...

...or white & lilac...

And no, these weren't just errors, or inconsistent coloring...

...as you occasionally saw the different colors in the same panel.

It makes sense, of course. Why wouldn't different of division of A.I.M have different colors? Just like Star Trek!!

And while they were still beekeepers, at least they were colorful beekeepers.

But somewhere along the line, and I'm far too lazy to research how or when, yellow became the default scheme for all A.I.M. flunkies, in every appearance.

BORING!!

With A.I.M. a much more prominent role in the Marvel Universe lately, someone should step in and fix this. NOW!

At Last, My Seal Of Approval

Look, I know I've said some unkind things about Bendis' run on the Avengers. But if he had done a little more of this...

...things woulda been a lot better.

Yes, M.O.D.O.K. has a flying dinosaur head...

Friday Night Fights--MODOK Style!!

No prelude, no lecture, no kvetching (I already did that on this story the other day)--just a straight up Friday Night Fights classic.

Iron Man and Captain America are trying to protect an island with some group-mind super-psychic immortals from being taken over by A.I.M.

Problem? MODOK knows how to take over the psychics remotely...

...to make himself into a big-ass energy mobile MODOK!!

Thus endeth the lesson.

Spacebooger, of course, is a Mental Organism Designed Only for Blogging.

Kurt Busiek & Roger Stern (plot), Mark Waid (script), Patrick Zircher and Randy Emberlin crafted the tale heroes who can disagree without causing a civil war in Iron Man/Captain America '98.

Now vote. Or else MODOK will cry.

You Can't Always get What You Want

I know this is just Batman fighting a guy in a radiation suit...

...but if I squint just right, I can pretend it's Batman fighting an A.I.M. goon. And that would surely be a preface to Batman facing MODOK.

Sigh...a guy can dream, right?

Love, MODOK Style

The eighties rocked. Just as Pac-Man had his Ms. Pac-Man, so too the 1980's gave us...

A love supreme is born...as the Mental Organism Designed Only for Kuddling sees his new mate:

And now, put on the Barry White, because it's time for Love, MODOK Style (warning...NSFW...if your workplace is filled with hyper-nerds...otherwise, it's probably OK...)

Ewww...I hope MODOK used a brain-condom.

Sadly, as many relationships tend to, this one came to a crashing halt because of irreconcilable differences over effortlessly slaughtering lesser beings:

Heck, who amongst us hasn't had that argument with a partner?

And so, as Ms. MODOK is transformed back into Dr. Katherine Waynesboro, we marvel at the Marvel Science that required AIM to dress her in a yellow bathing suit with high heeled yellow go-go boots in order to conduct this experiment.

Don't worry, though...just because Kate lost the love of one monster, doesn't mean she had to completely give up on monster love:

Thank you, Bill Mantlo, Sal Buscema and Carlos Garzon in Hulk #290 (1983), for making us love again.
