It's Hard To Find Good Help!

Thanks to Doctor Fate, Scooby Doo and the gang have been sent to the 1940s to help the Justice Society stop a bunch of Nazi saboteurs hired by Vandal Savage, because GODDAMN I LOVE COMIC BOOKS!!

Look, here's some of the bad guys!

Well, they're really no match for the team of Daphne and Wildcat!

If you've read enough Golden Age comics, you know this was a real problem for Axis agents!! Just another reason the bad guys lost: poor accent control!!

BONUS: You know how on all the JLA/JSA team-ups, we got those "everybody splits into teams" stories, and each chapter heading was the logos of the heroes involved?

Well, here you go!

You're welcome.

Manic Dredd Day Bonus--The Secret Judge Dredd/Scooby Doo Crossover!!

In the most recent issue of 2000 AD:

Zoinks!! And jinkies!!

I suppose that it's good to know that Shaggy and Velma make it to the 22nd century.

Or is it?

Oh, Shaggy. You should have stuck with the pizza and Scooby Snacks...

At least Scrappy Doo is not around in this future...we hope!!

We Will Always Need A Scooby Doo!

Maybe not literally. But there always has been, and always will be, an epidemic of bad persons using faux supernatural threats to scare folks into giving up their property and such.

Even in the old west...

I like the way Two-Gun Lil's gun seems to shoot out different colored bullets...

Grizzled prospector Hank Trott has been scared out of his poor fool mind, it seems...

Well, that was enough to give Trott the trots, so Lil goes to investigate...

Suspicious, sure...but what could he really want?

Further investigation shows:

Well, Lil goes into action, laying a trap worthy of Freddy and Velma:

You know, the colorist didn't really help here, apparently forgetting to make it nighttime...

Still, Lil's plan is aces!

Fortunately, this Scooby Gang can shoot!!

And he would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for that meddlin' cowgirl!!

The Secret Connection Between Spider-Woman, Plastic Man And Fangpuss!!

This ad appeared in Incredible Hulk Annual #8 (1979):

By then, I was pretty much done with the whole Saturday morning cartoon thing--places to go, people to see.

So allow me some ill-informed and decades-late comments.

It's not enough that they're Super Friends. Now they're "World's Greatest Super Friends"! Take that, Swedish Super Friends!

Plus, I have to admire that even though they showed his picture, Aquaman can't even get listed in the copy. Even in 1979, they knew...

I had absolutely no idea whatsoever that there had been a Spider-Woman cartoon. Not one single clue. How is that possible?

Also worth noting, that in the pre-merger mania and pre-discovery of corporate synergy era, ABC had no problem running both DC and Marvel shows. You wouldn't see that today, by golly.

This same comic had an ad for CBS' Saturday morning line-up, which featured Mighty Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Tarzan and Batman. What a wild, wacky world...

Wait...comedy AND adventure? Have you gone mad, ABC?

Much as with Spider-Woman, I had no clue that there had been a Plastic Man cartoon on Saturday mornings. Seriously, what else did I miss?

Glory days.

And then there's this:

What. The. Hell.

And this:

Whatever happened to Fangpuss?!?

And sadly:

I'm sorry. Scrappy Doo is the worst thing ever. I'd rather watch BvS again than watch anything with Scrappy Doo in it.

Seriously, I hate Scrappy Doo...

Manic Monday Bonus--Ra Ririt Rof Rengeance!!

There's big trouble in Spooksville:

Yup, the Spectre needs a living host to attach to. Fortunately...

...someone worthy is available!!

The story is capped off with the perfect line...

Look, I already told you how rad Scooby-Doo Team-Up is...so now I'm telling you again--this book is freakin' rad!!

Spoiler Saturday--Scooby-Doo Team-Up #16

The best comic book out this week, by far?

This one:

Yup.

And now I'm going to spoil the living hell out of it. Because I know not you're believing me on how beautiful it is, and I need to convince you to buy it when you head into your Local Comics Shoppe today for FCBD.

So after the 3 Scooby Doo pictures, spoilage commences. Come back later if you don't want to be spoiled....

OK, spoilers commence!

#1 cool thing about this story? While the cover maintains the ridiculous "SHAZAM Family" facade, in the interior Solly Fisch gives zero fraks about ridiculous corporate diktats:

Yup, they're called by their traditional names, and referred to as "The Marvel Family" throughout. Take that, nu52 idiots!!

#2 cool thing about this story?

Tawky Tawny and Uncle Marvel, completely unironically. Because old school, fools!!

#3 cool thing about this comic book (and honestly, the coolest)?

Yeah, they went there.

#4 cool thing about this book?

Mar-Velma tricks IBAC into turning back into a mortal...

...while Freddy totally pulls an "updog" on SABBAC:

Gotta love dumb villains.

#5 cool thing about this book: Old Man Shazam reveals how Shaggy and Velma transformed:

Look, I haven't bought any issues of Scooby Doo Team-Up before this. But this issue is making me reconsider that stance.

And given that it's been 4+ years since Geoff Johns ruined reinvented the Marvel Family as a concept, yet ZERO creators at DC seem in the least bit interested in doing anything whatsoever with the new concept, this is the best dose of Shazam that we're going to get for awhile.

So go buy it, and enjoy!
