Why 1970s Spider-Man Was The Best Spider-Man--Tarantula-Style!

How good was Spider-Man in the 1970s?

Spider-Man was sooo good that you could run the exact same cover three different times...

...and people would just beg for more.

Seriously...exact same angle and leg position for Tarantula, same yellow sky in New York City...

Let it be noted that it was the 1980s, and not the 1970s, that turned him into a human-sized tarantula and killed him. Sigh...

I actually loved the Tarantula getting turned into a giant spider storyline. It made some sense that even a highly skilled assassin (an assassin dressed in such a garish costume interestingly enough) with knife boots would still be little match for someone with Spidey's super strength, awareness and reflexes, so he might try to 'power up' and the chance for less than desirable mutation would be high to say the least.

But you're right on how great that cover is.

'Spectacular was always my favorite book.
