Worst Thing About The nu52 #13

Not that I needed any more reasons to be cranky, of course, but a couple of weeks ago we saw this:

That's right..."Last of your family line." Which means...

No Traci Thirteen in the nu52. She not only hasn't appeared...she hasn't even been born.

Which is odd...

...because pre-Flushpoint, DC seemed to be building up to bigger things for Traci--Blue Beetle's girlfriend, a back-up series in Teen Titans, etc. And she had her own mini-series during Flushpoint, as "the most important girl in the world." Heck, she was even created by Co-Uber-Poobah Geoff Johns, which you would think would guarantee the character's continued existence, if not prominence.

Not so much, it would seem. Apparently Johns doesn't have Jim Lee's pull, and it was more important to inject Voodoo in the DC Universe.

I suppose we can hope that the Haunted Highwayman is a sexist dick who only counts male descendants as the "family line."

Probably not, though. Traci was, of course, a legacy hero, and unless you're one of the Robins, that's verboten in the nu52.

So farewell, Traci. It was nice knowing you.

Panel from Phantom Stranger #2 (2012). Cover from Flashpoint: The World Of Flashpoint #1 (2011).

Let's build a case that Dan DiDio has a particular beef against FEMALE legacy heroes.

Steph Brown, Traci 13, who else who else?

Donna Troy...

Cass Cain, Speedy. Jade, though Obsidian got erased, too, so maybe?

Considering what's happened to Wonder Woman and Starfire, mostly Starfire, I think it's female characters in general. Except Barbara because they grew up with Batgirl or something.

In Barbara's case, it's not Batgirl, but Oracle DiDio had destroyed.

Starfire's in a camp similar to Catwoman's and Voodoo's.

This is the kind of misogyny that was coming out of Marvel in the early Quesada days (editor in chief in pics at a strip bar, the Mary Jane laundry statue, plenty of rape for the superheroines, and the infamous hentai cover).

More names that have disappeared or are being discredited: Lois Lane, Linda Park, Jesse Quick, Supergirl (debatable), Lady Blackhawk, Hawkwoman, Amanda Waller, ...

To be fair, we still have Mera, Batwoman, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman in her own book, various western stars, Ame-Comi Girls (debatable), Huntress and Power Girl, Amethyst, Ellen Baker, Abby Cable, and others.
