Namor really is an old cranky-pants. Maybe he needs more vitamin D or something.
Sally, I think that was almost precisely the point Byrne was making in this series - an explanation of why Namor was sometimes sane and other times a freaking maniac over his many decades of publication. Namor's amphibious nature induced a chemical imbalance in his brain any time he'd spent too much time in any one environment (air breathing or water breathing.) That explained why he was practically catatonic when Johnny Storm found him in the Bowery in FF #4 - he'd been breathing air for many years.
