Message Least Likely To Be Reproduced In San Diego This Weekend

Reply to a letter printed in Amazing Spider-Man #7 (1963), wherein the writer was mildly, and in all likelihood with substantial tongue in cheek, dismissive of another company's comics offerings:

And yet, those negative comments WERE printed. So a smooth case of having your cake and eating it to. Which you totally should. Cuz it's your cake, man.

Wouldn't it be nice to believe the editor was entirely sincere, though?

Didn't mean to sound so cynical. I'm sure he was. The letter was used as an example of what not to do when writing to Marvel.

Given the timeframe, the editor was doubtless Stan himself.

And the comment itself was pretty darned mild: "the competition now seems like echh!"
