Max acts and sounds like most immigrants I’ve known. It is often easy for people who were born here (like me) to take the blessings of living in this country for granted. Immigrants, for the most part, can’t help but be grateful for and positive about America. They recognize that the nation isn’t perfect, but they have a basis of comparison. They strive to make it even better and to take advantage of the opportunities to accomplish their goals and make a better life for themselves and their families. So on the whole, they make outsize contributions to science, technology, the economy, national security, or like Max, the culture.
