Friday Night Fights--WOW-Style!

It's called Friday Night Fights, not Friday Night Tough Negotiations.

And this week MC Spacebooger has declared that the winning fight will feature "a crazy powerful punch resulting in a KO!"

 Done and done!

Just a normal New York City day, when Gladiator comes to town. He's all confused and woozy, thanks to Skrull trickeration, and he fact he thinks that every super-hero he sees is a Skrull.

Enter Benjamin J. Grimm:

Yeah, that'll do it.

Spacebooger has a list of characters for Gladiator to pummel, when he gets the chance.

Big time punchy from Fantastic Four #249 (1982), by John Byrne

Now is the time for you to go and vote for my fight. Because it's been a really, really terrible weak, and I could use a win, no matter how small and meaningless. So go and vote!

I've never seen this comic before, but this is pretty close to being my ideal of what superhero art and writing should look like. Clear, detailed art, interesting panel arrangements, subdued but slightly snarky third person narration to support the action, thought balloons so we know what the hero is thinking, actual heroics, meaningful things actually happen in just eight panels of story...

SF, you have no idea how lucky you are.

Because now you can look at chapter II of this epic.

And then you can check out the senses-shattering Friday Night Fights Finale.

Ha! I love that the first #250 link also has a first comment very similar to mine here.

I think (thanks to Comixology) I'm going to follow my friend Chris's 30+ year old advice and read Byrne's run....

Byrne was one guy who really got what the F.F. were all about.

Love it, love it, love it! Love the F.F., the Imperial Guard, the Byrne years... Thanks for sharing this; I haven't read this in years! Forgot how much fun they were...
