If you get your history from stuffy old books, you might believe that the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved by determined diplomacy and Kennedy charisma (and a secret deal to remove U.S. missiles from Turkey...shhhh!).
Of course, you'd be 100% wrong. Only by reading comic books would you ever know the whole, unvarnished truth.
It starts with an orphaned American infant, raised by Buddhist monks in a Tibetan monastery...
After all of the monks are slaughtered by bandits, Andrew Helm survived, and kept up his studies, until he found the ultimate expression of Buddhist philosophy--a big ol' sci-fi contraption!!
What does it do??
Now, before any of you complain that compelling men to heed moral laws doesn't seem very Buddhist, remember your Star Wars. The Jedi are constantly using their "mind tricks" to control the thoughts and actions of the "weak-minded." I had always thought that sounded much more like a Dark Side use of the Force, but no, this story shows us that robbing people of their free will is clearly consistent with enlightenment and morality. Go figure.

And the effects are immediate. For example, in Gotham City, where the Penguin is teaming up with Captain Cold:
So, that's pretty cool. But most importantly, down on "an island in the Caribbean," the effect is much more important:
So there you have it. The Cuban Missile Crisis was solved by an American Buddhist monk who invented a Corti-Conscience machine that made everyone behave.
(SPOILER ALERT: It didn't last for too long)
Once again, comic books teach you the history that dusty old books and documentaries are afraid to!! And don't get me started on the History Channel...
Only Justice League Of America #40 (1965), as reprinted in JLA #115 (1975), dares to tell us the truth!!
