Man, that Bob Rozakis is soooo out of touch!!
From the Ask The Answer Man column in Action Comics #491 (1979):
What?? Is this Earth-Duh or something?? Superman...DC's most popular character?!? There's two Superman books, compared to a billion Batman books!!
Rozakis continued to live in this strange fantasy world a year later, we see in Flash #282 (1980):
Say what??
Obviously, no one told Rozakis that Superman was dated, and didn't relate to the real world, and wasn't sufficiently young (or sufficiently broody!) to be popular in the modern marketplace!!
God, what a terrible, frightening world it must have been in 1979-80, if Superman really was one of the most popular fictional characters!!

well, I'm not doing Reign of the Batmen, am I?
(Though that may be because Batmen would take twice as long!)
