Friday Night Fights--Gotham Hillbilly Style!!

Well, it's the last regular round of this bout on Friday Night Fights, and since I started with Superman, I might as well finish with Batman, right?

So, here's the (vague) scoop: Some ambassador from an unnamed country is taking a tour of an unnamed rural wintry area not all that far (apparently) from Gotham. Batman picked up "a tip" that some unknown assassin was going to attempt to kill the ambassador for undisclosed reasons (hey, sorry, the vague story is NOT my fault!). So Bruce Wayne got himself invited along so he could vanish in the middle of nowhere while Batman simultaneously shows up in the middle of nowhere. Smooth planning, Bruce.

Anyhow, in one of those completely unrelated coincidences that make the DC Universe what it is, a group of inbred rustic yokels who worship a giant white vampire bat are, under the bat's orders, firing potshots at our tour group--because a century ago the bat cursed their forefathers to live their lives driving away trespassers from the bat's territory.

Go back and read that paragraph again. Do you see why I love comics?

So, Batman has to take out Cletus and the slack-jawed yokels. How's it work out??

How did you think it was going to work out??

Oh, by the way, here's the Mike Kulata cover to this little gem:

Because it turns out that there really is a giant white vampire bat!!!

Even Spacebooger's mind was blown by that!!

Take a bow, Denny O'Neill, Michael Golden (!) and Craig Russell (!!), for your exceptionally odd "save the ambassador from the assassin AND the rustics while at the same time having the day saved by a giant white vampire bat that drains the bad guy's blood and makes his helicopter crash" story in Batman Family #19 (1978).

Now, I don't want to sound alarmist...but if you don't vote for my fight, well, how can I protect you from the giant white vampire bat?? Hmmm???
