When you have a last minute change of writer and/or artist from what you've previously announced, there's a right way to do it...
...and a wrong way to do it:
Letter from Tales to Astonish #61 (1964). DiDio's FU to Shooter and Legion fans from the NYCC, hat tip to The Legion Omnicom.
...and a wrong way to do it:
Q: I was really looking forward to the end of Jim Shooter's run on "Legion of Super-Heroes." Can you tell us what happened there and why fans weren't informed of the creative change? Not that it needs saying, but Dan DiDio is no Stan Lee...
DiDio: Well, first of all, that is a pseudonym, it's done by request of the author and we really don't talk about it. We finished and cancelled and put the book out the door. I'm not really sure what the question is, but thanks for asking it.

DiDio really, *really* doesn't like comics fans...
Jim Shooter is just a pseudonym? What the hell is he talking about?
Siskoid, Legion #50 was supposed to be written by Shooter, but was published with the writer listed as the obvious pseudonym "Justin Thyme." Speculation (and it's nothing more than that right now) is that Shooter either refused to do it or got canned for other reasons, and someone else, or more than one someone, did the script.
Perhaps he was referring to "Justin Tyme", which I hear is the "name" actually used in the issue? Maybe something was cut off in the transcript? Or Didio's an idiot, but that one goes without saying. The question's rather obvious to me, and I'M an idiot.
Just as I was typing, snell came in.
Also, if you need a fill-in, classic era Ditko is a good pick.
