Well, did you ever wonder exactly HOW they decided which stories to reprint in those? Well, thanks to Super DC Giant #16 (1970), the truth can finally be told:

Just so we're clear on the concept, Batman takes nights off from fighting crime to travel to New York and pick reprint stories for DC.
And his "friends" play tricks on Batman to get him to pick stories featuring them.
You know, this explains so much about why Batman made the choices he did in Tower Of Babel...

Hmm...Bob's Haney's character Metamorpho tricked Batman in selecting a story about a "fresh,original" character...created and written by Bob Haney. Holy Metatext!
Simon...it's certainly possible, although I can't find the editing credits for this special anywhere.
Oh, I bought that one back in the Seventies, forgot all about the framing sequence. Maybe Boltinoff has Batman beam over to Earth Prime?
This may possibly be one of the greatest portrayals of Batman that I have ever read.
So, huh...Batman's a "cape-collector".
...who knew?
Well, except for Dick Grayson or Superman, maybe: "Hey Clark, what say we go see what capes this weekend's rounds of yard sales has to offer, hmm? And I hear there's a new second-hand/surplus store opening up across town...oh, I can't wait!""
It *would* explain his "not before marriage" angle quite a bit ;P
