The following mind-blowing revelation came to me in a dream last night:
The first super-hero stories for both DC and Marvel featured an unauthorized rocket launch.
Yes, you can quibble a bit, but the fact remains--both Action Comics #1 and Fantastic Four #1 rely on the same plot device: the unauthorized rocket launch and the fate of its passengers.
So I guess the lesson is this: if you're planning to start your own comics company, and you want to seriously challenge the Big Two, you'd better feature an unauthorized rocket launch.
Lesson 2: fewer pizza rolls before bedtime.
