This happened in Superman #297 (1976). See, Superman had been blasted by orange sun radiation, and had to giver up being Superman for at least a week, and...look, just saying "Superman in the 70s" should be enough to explain it...

    I love this issues, especially since it takes the Lois/Clark relationship an interesting direction if for only one issue--especially for a DC comic in the 70s.

    I agree, this is one of my favourite continued stories ('arc' schmarc!) ever, mostly for the reasons garaujo1 says.
