Some would suggest that its hard *not* be Freudian when you have women fondling guns. And there are a lot more pages like that that I didn't post! Let's just say that Eisner knew how to get the attention of his target audience...
I am the proud owner of a copy of this manual ... one of several Eisner treasures. When I met the man I had to choose which item I wanted him to autograph. I chose a collection of daily strips, which I later learned were in fact drawn by Jack Cole. Ah well. Eisner didn't seem to mind.
At that same convention I entered a costume contest as the Spirit, complete with skin-graft eye mask. For my little presentation I peeled off the mask and said I was tired of getting the holy crap beaten out of me and I quit. Eisner was there and he laughed and laughed. I'll never forget that moment. :)
Is it just me, or is that second page really, really ... ummm ... Freudian?
