Friday Night Fights--Redwing Gets Stoned Style!!

We've got some rock-kicking in this week's Friday Night Fights.

The Grey Gargoyle has routed the Avengers, and now he's threatening this woman for having the temerity to move into his old apartment and throw out his chemicals while he was presumed dead.

Fortunately, Sam Wilson is on the job!

HEY!!

Whoa!! Two-footed face-kick!!

Unfortunately...

So much for the Falcon!!

Oh, all right...

SPOILER ALERT: The cavalry shows up!

Spacebooger is curious how the Gargoyle turns some things to stone but not others...

Bird vs. stone is from Avengers # 191 (1980), by David Michelinie, John Byrne and Dan Green

Now is the time for you to go and vote for my fight. Why? Because I deliberately held off on most of the "stone" and "rock" puns I could have used. So go vote!!

  1. What the hell? While Byrne was co-plotting and drawing the best run ever on the X-men, he also managed to draw nearly a year's worth of the monthly Avengers title, too? How is that even remotely possible?

  2. SF--Bro, Byrne was a throwback, one of the last artists who could turn out quality work at a (not quite) Kirby pace. Let's not forget that a few year5s after this, Byrne would be writing/drawing/inking (mostly) both Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight simultaneously.

  3. If I remember correctly, the Gargoyle could only turn things to stone if he touched them with his open palm; his gloves having cutouts for just that purpose. If he hit you with his closed fist, he'd just break your jaw.

  4. I always felt a bit sorry for that poor woman who had just spent a small fortune fixing up her new apartment only to have the former tenant come by and trash the place.

Did Damage Control cover stuff like that?

  5. SF - Not only that, but he was pencilling FF for about 10 months to a year during that same period.
