The First Steve/Sam Split Was Much, Much More 70s!

Coming tomorrow is the 2nd issue of Sam Wilson, Captain America...

...but all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again:

Nice.

But whereas the 2015 Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson rift is apparently going to be caused by Sam's Captain America taking some political stands, it's got nothing on the 1971 split.

Sam has a new girlfriend, Leila. But as a leader of the radical People's Militia group, she's more interested in Sam's politics than his body:

Wow, Gary Friedrich wrote the hell out of that line!! "You're where it's at in my book, Daddy...but my book's out of print...until you get the right library card!" I dare all of you to use that line on a loved one this week.

Cap tries to be understanding...

Nick Spenser and Daniel Acuña, you have a tough act to top! Good luck, guys!

  1. Okay, wait, hold up. Steve and Sam are going to have a split because Steve objects to Sam, as Captain America, taking political stands?

In other words... is Steve Rogers taking the same position as Fox News!?!?!?

I think my brain just imploded.

(Or there's a part of the story I'm missing, and reality still makes sense. Yeah, that's gotta be it.)

  2. Ha, i thought, going into this article with a click, that this was about the "split" 'XAM!' captain marvel & how he was like Steve austin the bionic man from the 70's n' was jus ahead of his time n' was due for a comeback n' retooling in a nostalgic retro 70's urban funk style, etc etc etc :P

It wasnt till i was a few paragraphs in & realized that cap & falcon were more than just segues for the intro of the article that i went back n read the title line again :P :D ;)

  3. Luthor--in fairness, the issue isn't out yet, so we don't know the specifics. And I do trust Nick Spenser to come up with a good story...
