What was it like, going to college in the DC Universe in the Silver Age? Especially when your school had their very own super-hero mascot?
Well, your museums would be filled with super-hero trophies...
Your art classes would have unique models (no, no nude drawings, pervs)...
NASA will loan freshman physics classes expensive "mini-computers"...
Your classes would actually launch rockets...
And the rich philanthropists who "donate buildings" to the school won't name the buildings after themselves...
OK, that's one is just weird...
But what about the nightlife? We saw Animal House...we know what was going on colleges in the 1960s!!
Well, maybe there weren't any toga parties...
But man, those cats knew how to live it up!
And if you take a closer look, you'll see that...
No band in the history America had more fun than these guys!
Ah, college...

Nice Kurt Schaffenberger art. Notice the detail he put into rendering the guitars and drums (what can be seen of them)! No shortcuts from this artist.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Schaffenberger. His characters have the best, most expressive facials out there--especially the females.
ReplyDeleteHe was great on all levels. Remarkable how his style changed little from his Fawcett days to DC.
ReplyDeleteHe seemed to ink his own art so often that when others did it, something was clearly lost as a result. On the flip side, I loved the rare occasions when he inked the pencils of other artists (like some of Don Newton's early SHAZAM! stories).
