Who are Thor and his fellow Asgardians fighting this issue?
Wow, this sounds terrifying!
Man oh man, I'm scared already!!
Dude, I am soooooo ready for this!!
I'm sold!!! Bring it on!!
All right, this is going to be so great!!
Give us the big reveal!!!!
Oh.
A big blancmange with tentacles and an eye.
OK.
Yeah, I guess that's kinda unholy and grotesque and beyond description and....
Nope, sorry. Not really that scary at all.
Gotta call caption fail on this one.
Bonus--the first caption tells us words are now superfluous, and then they proceed to give us...5 more captions. Full of words.
Different definition of superfluous, I suppose.
Len Wein's captions WAAAYYYY over-promise on what John Buscema and Tony DeZuniga could deliver in Thor #257 (1977)
Maybe Sporr smells reallllly bad.
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten about this one. Standard Star Trek plot by way of Beauty and the Beast: repulsive monster is really gentle, misunderstood altruist and killed by dumb humans. Oh, the humanity. And narrated by the android Recorder for added holier-than-thou effect.
ReplyDeletePretty pictures though. Wasn't this the first use of "Starjammer" before Claremont & Cockrum?
Sporr seems to have been recycled from Tales of Suspense #11 (reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell #2). It wasn't very scary there, either.
ReplyDeleteShit, dude.
ReplyDeleteJust give Volstagg the Spork of Valhalla and let him go at it.
He looks kind of sweet, like the aliens from the Simpsons.
