Ms. Monitor--SOLVED!! (Probably Not, Though)

OK, so I have a brand new, no doubt completely wrong theory about the identity of the mysterious purple-hooded woman who a) caused, or helped, or co-sponsored, the creation of the Flushpoint DC Universe, and b) popped up in (or was cut and paste into) every nuDC #1, no matter where in time or space it took place (but none of the #2s?!?):

Well, I'm reading Legion Of Super-Heroes #2 yesterday, and this shot particularly struck me:

Now, this is Glorith, a young sorceress who has recently joined the Legion. Obviously, you can note the physical similarities...the glowy eyes, the hood, the face-painting/tattoos/whatever. But there's much more than just looks to support this theory.

  • In the scene above, Brainiac 5 has concluded that scientific means cannot break through the time barrier. But he's begun to suspect that Glorith's magic might be able to. So it seems as if Glorith is about to start magically mucking with time. Hmmm...
  • In the complex we-can't-use-Superboy continuity of the Legion between Crisis On Infinite Earths and Zero Hour, Glorith was a major player, a mistress of time travel, and the equivalent of the Time Trapper. Her sorcery-based mastery of time even allowed her to "separate" parts of time, creating pocket dimensions. Which sounds not unlike our mystery time-travelling woman trying to recombine "timelines."
It doesn't take a major logical leap to see what could happen...Brainy tries to use Glorith to go back in time and search for the Legion Lost, something goes ka-floogy, and Glorith a) becomes powerful and b) sees the damage that the mysterious "they" did by separating the timelines, and sets about to fix it.

BONUS SCHADENFREUDE: Seeing the rest of the DC Universe have to reboot because of something that happened in a Legion title, instead of the other way around, would be satisfying.

I'm probably not right. But prove that I'm not right, minions!!

  1. Well, you could be right. But I regret to inform you that the theory isn't new; people have been speculating that the purple-hooded chick is Glorith right from the beginning, or possibly before that. Another example of great minds thinking alike. (I do not claim to be one of these minds.)

  2. Yeah, but since time travel is involved, they probably stole my theory and went back to the past to publish it :-p

  3. Does that mean my theory is null and VOID?

  4. Oh brilliant, I am so going to Facebook this!

I can't wait for new Glorith to go bad ... or turn into Lori Morning!

  5. I forget if it was Zero Hour or LO3W, at the end, we saw Time Trapper with a woman's flowing hair. I think TT is DiDio's escape hatch and I'll bet changes occur subtly and slowly.

  6. Being the Time Trapper is like DC's version of jury duty: Everyone has to do it at some point.

  7. I'm...actually liking you're theory. Much more than what they might end up using actually..

  8. The bonus schadenfreude is a nice touch.
