The ad mentions "professional" batons about 9 times, so apparently, the 1940s were the heyday of the National Drum Majors League (before free agency ruined it all, of course).

In this alternate universe, drum majors were popular!!

  1. Since the vast majority of drum majors/majorettes would be with school bands, the term "professional" is used rather loosely. The only other twirlers you would see at the time were beauty pageant contenders with no other discernible talent.
